Nitrous Oxide Sedation
What is Nitrous oxide sedation?
Nitrous oxide sedation, also known as laughing gas, is a safe and effective sedative that can be used for all age groups during dental treatment. Nitrous oxide acts quickly (in approximately one minute), is non-allergenic and able to be controlled by the dosage levels.
How does it work?
The gas works by relaxing the patient and may result in the cheeks and gums feeling numb. The effects of nitrous oxide can be reversed by administering 100% oxygen and, unlike general or intravenous sedation, patients can leave the surgery without being escorted.
However, nitrous oxide may cause nausea and can be less effective on people with respiratory problems so it is important that patients consume no food and discuss any medical conditions with the dentist prior to treatment. We also recommend that patients be accompanied home by a friend or relative.
We offer a variety of Family and Aesthetic dentistry procedures that can be customized to meet the unique needs of each of our patients. Call us today at 9842 9684
